Recorded live in the basement of a real pizza restaurant, this is a nostalgic show for me. Everybody was on-point that night. I can hear friends shouting, clapping, and singing along. I used to bring around this hefty portable cassette recorder so I could lay down any ideas I had right away; and that's how this show was recorded. I haven't polished the audio because I think the lo-fi quality adds to the experience. Maybe you will too. To wrap things up on this release I've added a few lost tracks from this same tape. There's the origins of the black ribbon, a song for the soup kitchen bus crew we met that summer, and an alternate version of Prot. These would eventually become the album 'Gentle' later that year.

It's dangerous or at least relatively unhelpful to rehash your past creations too much. By putting this album out and giving it to others I'm also, in a way, leaving it behind. Maybe not behind, but putting it somewhere safe in the past for storage. So this is both a time capsule of what used to be and a seed planted for good times like this to return in a new form someday. I'm glad that these old songs can have new life and meaning for audiences who didn't hear them the first time around. I'm not done playing them forever, but this is the last "old / lost material" album I will probably put out. We're looking forward now, this is just a nice sunset in the rear-view mirror. Thanks for being a part of it, either then or now or both.
